A holistic approach to the built environment.

Design and construction. Beauty and functionality. Indoors and outdoors. SweisKloss organically integrates these divergent elements into the built environment to create singular spaces that nurture body and soul.

Based in Santa Monica, California, we’re a full-service boutique firm specializing in building design, interior design and construction. Since we believe that every project, site and person is unique and deserving of our utmost attention, each step of the design + construct process is thoughtfully examined and artfully executed to celebrate the individuality of our clients. This holistic approach, in which we all work synergistically from conception through completion, allows every project to achieve its true potential.

Breaking boundaries to create harmony.

Our quest to create harmonious environments starts by blurring the line between the indoors and outdoors. This interplay between nature and man and innovation and sustainability results in a natural union between space and occupant.

By transcending the norms of conventional architecture firms and offering more areas of expertise, we are not only more nimble, we’re highly invested in getting to know you to ensure that your next space is truly an extension of yourself.

Our dedicated and dynamic team is fueled by the spirit of collaboration and the dreams of our clients. Whether it’s a custom home, a renovation or a commercial office design, our goal is to elevate every space to a place of belonging.

Abeer Sweis | design partner

Abeer is passionate about all things design. While she also has intimate knowledge of construction and structural engineering, it is her innate ability to look at a potential project and see myriad design possibilities that has helped make her company a success.

Abeer knew at a young age that she wanted to become an architect. When she was 10, her family moved from her native Amman, Jordan to Los Angeles, where she went on to receive her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Woodbury University. While working as a designer at a small architecture firm, she acquired the technical knowledge and business skills to build her own company. In 1998, she started her own design firm, and in 2006 she partnered with her husband Jeff Kloss to create the construction side of the company, fulfilling their design + construct vision.

Since 1995, Abeer has taught at UCLA Extension, Cal Poly Pomona, Pierce College, Woodbury University and other Los Angeles area design schools. A leader in her community, she is a distinguished past president of the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica and an involved parent of two rapidly growing children.

Jeff Kloss | construction partner

A licensed general contractor and go-to guy for all things construction, Jeff has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Woodbury University where he and Abeer met. While he was pursuing his degree, he worked for a local construction company and discovered his appreciation for building.

Jeff went on to manage the construction of exclusive restaurants, high-end retail projects and custom homes for the Marshall Group before leading institutional projects at CW Driver such as The Cerritos Public Library, Jewish Home for the Aging and the Torrance YMCA. He also oversaw multiple modernization projects for the La Crescenta Valley and El Segundo School Districts.

After learning all aspects of construction on a variety of large-scale jobs, Jeff started to miss collaborating with a team and working on projects that were more intimate and personal for the end user. Thus, the perfect opportunity presented itself to join forces with Abeer to create their full-service design + construct  firm. Jeff is an active parent, coach and mentor in Boy Scout Troop T2 and AYSO Soccer. From leading a hike or canoe trip, to refereeing soccer games, he enjoys spending time with his son and daughter.

Georgeanna "George" Cheung | consulting designer

Georgeanna has been a vital member of the company since she started working for Abeer in 2003.

Hailing from a small town outside Detroit, she spent her high school years at Cranbrook Kingswood, an educational community focused on academics, arts and athletics. She then earned a BS degree in Anthropology from the University of Chicago and later a Certificate in Interior Design from the UCLA Architecture and Interior Design program. It is her devotion and great eye for all things design that makes Georgeanna indispensable to the team.  When she's not mentoring staff and creating beautiful spaces, she spends her time raising two kids and finessing her culinary skills.

Jessica Handy | project manager

Before joining SweisKloss, Jessica was a Property Manager for high-rise office buildings in New York City with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank and most recently was the West Coast Director for CodeGreen Solutions, Inc., a sustainability and energy engineering firm. She is a LEED AP and believes that worldwide sanitation, family planning and the reduced usage of the earth’s resources will save the human race. It is her focus on details and communication skills that make Jessica an important asset to the SweisKloss team. A past president of the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica and active in various organizations in the community, Jessica holds a BA in Society and Justice from the University of Washington and an MS in Protection and Emergency Management from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Patricia Fontes | designer + project manager

Born and raised in Brazil, Patricia has a BA in Economics from University of Sao Paulo; an MBA from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master’s Degree in Interior Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona. Before embarking on her architecture ambitions, she worked as a Product Manager in Marketing for 10 years at companies such as Citibank and Bristol-Myers Squibb. To round out her versatile skill set even further, Patricia is currently taking Landscape Architecture at UCLA Extension. She loves being part of a team that creates beautiful designs and works diligently to exceed client expectations. When she’s not working, she loves spending time with her two young daughters and creating knit originals.

Amanda Cavallo | designer + assistant project manager

Amanda has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Syracuse University and is a LEED AP BD+C. While living in Boston, she worked in lighting design, commercial and healthcare design, and LEED certification. She especially enjoys the investigative practice at SweisKloss, whether experimenting with form in a digital model, researching new architectural technologies, or exploring interior finish options. When Amanda is not designing, creating, painting or building something, you can find her rollerblading, running, hiking, practicing yoga on the beach or scavenging for chocolate in the kitchen.

Amanda Berger | project manager

Amanda has always been fascinated by design and architecture. She holds a BS in Business Administration from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While her first post-college pursuit was as a commercial insurance broker, providing coverage for contractors and construction projects, she realized that her appreciation for good design and detail orientation was more suited to the construction industry.  She loves watching a client’s vision become reality through the course of a project timeline that she maintains and coordinates. When she’s not working, she enjoys the beach, yoga and spending time with friends.

Wyatt Trapp.jpg

Wyatt Trapp | superintendent

Wyatt spent his childhood in Denver, CO building and working with his father whose standard of “level, square and straight” laid the foundation for Wyatt’s future reputation as a general contractor. Having married into a family of builders, his destiny was pretty much set; he has been a general contractor for over 18 years. Wyatt’s love for design is equal only to his desire to see his clients thrive in well-built spaces. Working as a Site Superintendent with SweisKloss, Wyatt is happy to be collaborating with a team that shares his standards.

When not building spaces, Wyatt spends time coaching people in relationships and developing leaders through a non-profit he sponsors with his family. He has a Bachelor of Business Science from Harding University.

Erin Yamada

Erin Yamada | designer + senior project manager

Erin Yamada, LEED AP, has her BA in Human Biology from Stanford and her Master of Architecture from UCLA. Before joining SweisKloss, Erin managed the documentation and construction of large residences for residential architecture firms KAA Design Group and Studio William Hefner. Her favorite aspect of architecture is developing the technical details, collaborating with consultants, and working with contractors to actualize a design into a built structure. When not using her skills to help her team turn designs into reality, she is spending time with her son, jogging or doing yoga.

Taylor Horton

Taylor Horton | designer + assistant project manager

A recent transplant to the west coast, Taylor Horton enjoys being outside hiking, backpacking, beaching, and participating in outdoor sports. He has settled in the right place! Originally from the deep south, Taylor has his BA in Architecture from Auburn University in conjunction with the Rural Studio; an award winning design-build program. His prior experience includes woodworking, furniture design, construction management, and design experience in adaptive reuse and small commercial spaces. When not designing or enjoying the outdoors, Taylor is a singer and plays the guitar and piano.
