This month’s spotlight shines a light on one of SweisKloss’ newest team members, designer and project manager, Zaid Soudani.
Born in Amman, Jordan and raised in Los Angeles, Zaid’s love of design and art began at an early age, with a high school course in graphic design sparking his interest in cutting edge technology. “Father knows best,” and following his suggestion, Zaid pursued a career in architecture where could combine his creativity with his interest in technology. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree with a minor in construction management from New School of Architecture & Design in San Diego and is currently pursuing his architecture license.
His first mentor, the late Joe C. Nicholson, inspired Zaid, sharing stories of his time working for Ray and Charles Eames and reinforced Zaid’s “love of making things.” While in architecture school, Zaid worked at a fabrication shop where he designed and built furniture, art and architectural models. His favorite project was a coffee table fabricated using rhino + grasshopper. The surface of the table was pulled from the topographical terrain of his neighborhood in Golden Hills, San Diego. Zaid has also worked in fabrication and R&D for Architectural Materials, creating furniture, point of sales displays, and architectural facades. His passion and vast knowledge in this field led him to tutoring students and providing software training to professionals.
He continued his passion for architecture and gained valuable experience working on residential and hospitality projects as a project manager and project architect at MASS Design + Build, Colega Architecture and HUUM.
Zaid joins SweisKloss as a designer and project manager where he enjoys working with the clients to create their dream custom homes from conception to construction. He is passionate about experimenting with new ideas and technology and mentoring the company’s junior designers and project managers. He enjoys 3D printing architectural models to help clients visualize structures and spaces. (He also uses it to make Halloween costumes!)
Life after work is gym, eat, sleep and repeat. On the weekends Zaid enjoys being outdoors hiking, bike riding along the beach, paddle boarding, and snowboarding.
