2025 Design Year in Review

It’s been a busy year for the SweisKloss team. We’ve designed a custom spiral staircase that had to be craned through a roof, turned an outdoor seating area into a spa and created a sunken bathtub. With every bedroom, bathroom and kitchen we have drawn and sketched, we’ve thoughtfully considered our clients’ needs and lifestyles.

Looking back on the year, our designers have reflected on projects and designs that have been memorable and what they are looking forward to in the coming year.

Stairway to Heaven
Franziska worked closely with Sunwest Fabrication to create this spiral staircase that elegantly combines functionality and form, creating a sculptural statement piece in this SK designed and built custom home in Sunset Park. It took a crane, ropes, and a bit of muscle to set the staircase in place, lifting it through the roof and carefully placing and anchoring it to the living room floor. Watching the home go from conception to construction has been rewarding and fulfilling for Franziska as the space features many unique designs including a sunken bath. As the project draws to a close, Franziska will turn her attention to a renovation in the Westdale neighborhood and finish designing of a kindergarten in Culver City.

Rebuilding a Forever Home
This year presented another opportunity for Tatiana to work with the Spanish revival style. Collaborating with the clients on their Altadena rebuild, it was an honor for her to be a part of restoring the community after the devastating event earlier this year. Together they designed a charming and energy efficient single-family home with Spanish accents including stucco walls, a tile roof, arched openings, exposed beams of darker stain, and colorful tile work. “These elements will contribute to the timeless look and feel of the home, and hopefully they will help maintain and restore the community’s style once the project is completed,” says Tatiana.

Singing the Blues
Creating a striking space, Dunn Edwards’ Long Lake blue paint compliments the copper and gold veining in the island and backsplash in this renovated kitchen designed by Patricia. She thoroughly enjoyed working with the homeowners on this remodel and addition in Santa Monica. She especially loves the open kitchen that flows seamlessly into the dining and living room areas, which feature large doors, skylights and tons of natural light. Next up for Patricia is a Spanish revival remodel and expansion in Atwater Village which will blend new elements and upgraded amenities with authentic Spanish details.

Old Memories Inspire New Dreams
The highlight of Irina’s first six months working at SweisKloss has been meeting our wonderful clients for a fire-rebuild project in Altadena and being entrusted with the opportunity to work on the design of their forever home. Their resilience and positive attitude in the face of such loss is remarkable. As Irina explains, “Their warmth and kindness is inspiring a warm materials palette.” Working on the project with Irina, Zaid has designed the client’s dream baker’s kitchen to recreate the warmth and fond memories the client has of baking with her grandmother. His design includes retro appliances, vintage colors, and a seating area so she can spend time with family and friends making new memories.

Other exciting projects include designing and building a ground up hillside home in Studio City, interior and exterior renovations and additions on several Westside properties, and a custom home in Tarzana.
