The scarcity of water in California and many other regions around the world is a serious issue. We have all heard of ways that we can change our daily habits to save water and while we can certainly implement all of those, there are many other things that can be done beyond our waterwise behavior.

These are smaller projects indoors:
  • Check for leaks and maintain your faucets and toilets.
  • Fill your toilet tank with an object to occupy space.
  • Replace faucets with new lower flow versions.
  • Replace toilets with ultra-highly efficient ones.
  • Replace your washing machine with a high efficiency model.
  • Outdoors you can add or replace the mulch in your planter beds and install a water sense controller.

Some ideas for a larger project include:
  • Install a gray water system.
  • Replace your sprinklers with a drip irrigation system.
  • Install drought tolerant landscaping.
  • Capture water for reuse in rain barrels or underground tanks.
  • It is imperative that we all start treating water like a precious resource, minimizing waste, and looking for new ways to make an impact that will help us reach a net positive water goal in the nearer future.
