New Years Resolution
Each new year the world makes resolutions.

Each new year the world makes resolutions. Although I prefer to set personal goals for the year ahead; eat better, exercise more, work less and travel more, for example, I find these to be easier said than actually done.

For 2019 what I have done, and what I encourage all of us to do, is to set goals to improve our world by reducing our impact on it. This upcoming year let’s aspire to live “greener”. Even better, let’s aspire to get to a zero footprint at home. A few of these items are easy and others require a bit more planning and effort.

  1. Replace old lamps with LED lamps. Or you can step it up and replace/retrofit the fixtures. Make sure to select the best color temperature.
  2. Ask your gardener to install a smart sprinkler controller, such as the Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller.
  3. Install a programmable timer, aqua-stat or smart switch for your recirculation pump.
  4. Install an attic fan before next summer arrives.
  5. Install a programmable switch for your exterior lights.
  6. Replace your thermostat with a smart thermostat.
  7. Take the time necessary to learn how to program and to operate any new controls so that the system can function as efficiently as it was designed to.

Even better, let’s think bigger and look into solar power and storage batteries, replace landscaping with drought tolerant plants, and installing an outlet in your garage for your next electric car.

The time to make a smaller impact on this planet is now. Let’s each do our part in 2019. I wish you all a healthy and happy new year!
