With another heat wave gripping Los Angeles, the stunning infinity pool designed by SweisKloss at this Sherman Oaks residence is the perfect retreat for cooling off.

Looking out at the Santa Monica Mountains, the home’s thoughtful layout is designed to celebrate the dramatic setting, with a sweeping wall of glass framing panoramic views and drawing the eye towards the expansive rear patio. Floor-to-ceiling doors dissolve the boundary between indoors and out, extending the kitchen, living room and primary bedroom seamlessly into the outdoor space. The carefully designed space is functional and inviting, creating the ideal setting for enjoying the California lifestyle.

The heart of the outdoor space is the dramatic 53-foot by 12-foot and 6 ½-foot deep rectangular infinity pool, built by Sutton Pools. With water appearing to flow into the canyon beyond, the pool creates a visual connection to the serene landscape.

Both the pool and adjoining 9-foot by 8-foot and 4-foot deep spa are finished in PebbleTec’s Pebblefina in Sapphire Galaxy, creating a smooth dark blue surface. Inspired by old world Venetian glass makers, Lunada Bay Tile’s handcrafted Agate Glass mosaic tile in Lucca Pearl line the pool and spa, with a finish described as “evocative of the semi-precious stones found in volcanic formations.”

Together, the dark blue water and shimmering glass tile reflect the colors and textures of the canyon and sky, allowing the pool to feel like a natural extension of the landscape. An automated retractable pool cover protects it when not in use.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the outdoor area was carefully designed as a defensible space against wildfire. A 60-foot uphill buffer zone provides additional protection, while fire resistant materials, such as concrete, pavers and pebbles, help slow the spread of flames and reduce the risk of falling embers catching fire. Clean lines and minimalist landscaping keep the focus on the views. Walker Zanger paver tiles in Sand extend across the backyard, while thoughtfully placed EBB outdoor wall sconces in bronze cast a warm glow. Casual yet chic weather-resistant lounge chairs provide comfortable seating, while the deep overhang offers a respite from the sun. Discreetly installed Infratech outdoor heaters allow the homeowners to enjoy the patio year-round.

A built-in grill with beverage center and Danver powder coated steel cabinetry in Champagne makes dining alfresco effortless with everything needed just steps from the outdoor dining table.

A custom pergola defines a separate side entertaining area, complete with a firepit, comfortable lounge seating, television and an outdoor shower, creating another inviting space for relaxing.
